Taking Requests

Happy Passover! I just got back from a nice first night with my supervisor from grad school. I am very lucky to have people to seder with. I would have been sad tonight if I didn't have plans.

I am on my way too being an "Indoor Cycling" instructor at the Y. That's what we call it. I need a better name that's not the brand name. Anyway, I am knee deep in music and I'm asking your for some requests. If you were going to a cynning class, what songs would you want to hear? Even if you've never been or can't imagine sitting on a bike for an hour, what songs get you going?

Comments please!!!

As an [quasi] authority on schvitzing class I would say that you would have to look at your schvitzers demographics. I am apparently old and I am not so happy listening some of the music that my instructors choose. Don't get me wrong the beat is great but the lyrics are horrid. And there isn't anything you can do to get away from it. I used to love when they played 'Stairway to Heaven'. It was funny on many levels and made for a good long hill climb. Another favorite was the Proclaimers 'Walk 500 miles'[on the walk theme is 'Walking on Broken Glass', 'Walkin' after Midnight', 'Walk the Line']. I would have liked them to do theme rides the Summer of Love Ride or the Woodstock Ride or an all Beatles Ride, Dylan Day. 'Blowin' in the Wind', 'Windy', 'Summer Breeze', 'Light my Fire' [this is a ride through all kinds of weather, zodiac signs and some liberal politics]. An illegal substance ride 'Stoned Soul Picnic, Everybody must get Stoned, Stoned Love, One Toke over the Line, Lucy in the Sky. Hey, this is fun! But I don't think the people at the Y would think so. I am now off to google Brandons suggestions. I feel old. Next stop the Cardiac Stress Test Sp-----g Class. Our first song will be Janis Joplin singing 'Piece of my Heart'.

question: is it in the "indoor cycling" handbook that you must put u2's beautiful day on every cd?

although you can probably predict 80% of the songs i would pick how about:

daniel bedingfield- gotta get through this
new radicals- just can't get enough
gnarls barkley- run
madonna- jump
chemical brothers- galvanize
tom petty- american girl
phil collins- in the air tonight...obvi for dramatic effect the best climbing song

bonus points if you put either miley cyrus-see you again or leona lewis-bleeding love on a cycling cd AND sing along. if you do i am coming to your class.

double bonus if you put on listen to your heart and play the air piano. if you do i am putting it on youtube.

little less conversation by elvis presley :) it was featured in a nike ad years ago so i think the one i am referring to is a remix of some sort (even though I am usually not a fan of the remix machine).

anyway - it was my pump it up song for the nike chicago marathon a few years ago and i have always associated it was a nice energy surge!
