When Did We Stop Clapping?

Why don't we clap anymore after pilots land the plane? And how come pilots don't tell us where we are during the flight? Both of those things would make flights more enjoyable for me.

I'm gonna have to call ya out on this one. Don't you remember the Seinfeld bit on how annoying it is when Pilots say "first I'm gonna take it to 30,000 and hang a left at Chicago..""while we're all thinking..Yeah just get where it says on the ticket we don't need every detail." Also, clapping...Hmmm. I think that it should be a good landing every time and a clap would only be awarded to a particulary difficult flight where passengers felt it was a particulary unsafe landing and the pilot showed exceptional skill.

I'm with Maura! If I'm flying over the Mississippi River or the Hoover Dam, I want to know about it!

I'm gonna got with Edward on this one. I specifically wrote down this quote ion my Moleskin because I thought it was so ridiculous:

"Hello everyone. We're not moving yet. Still loading some bags - we want to make sure we get each and every one of them!"
And then below, I commented, 'Told by, The Master of the Obvious, our United pilot'.

But, I have to say, the best thing that was ever said by a pilot on a flight was this just after we landed:
"Welcome to San Francisco everybody. Please continue to keep all electronic devices turned off, you may begin to use your cell phones and pagers, and if you're a smoker... Good Luck".
